There were 94 new community cases of Covid-19 today.

Seven cases were in Waikato and the remaining 87 were in Auckland, and Waiheke Island has got one of those new cases.

Local board chair Cath Handley told Andrew Dickens it's the first locally transmitted case on the island since Covid began.

"Last year, we might've got a couple of people over visiting who had Covid but didn’t fortunately transmit it, but this is local."
