The Director-General of Health this afternoon was keen to assure people that there are enough tests available to swab people for Covid-19.

Some GPs have said they ordered tests, but didn't receive the full amount they ordered.

Ashley Bloomfield today said there are enough tests, but the ministry is trying to avoid people stockpiling them.

Bryan Betty, the medical director at the Royal New Zealand College of GPs, told Heather du Plessis-Allan that there have been some problems with distribution, with GPs only receiving five or six of the tests they ordered.

He thinks that this is about a flow of tests to appropriate places.

"There's been a big effort in the last few weeks to start up CBAC (Community Based Assessment Centre), general practices are also doing the testing, and I think the flow of the test kits themselves, there have been some issues and those are slowly being worked through."
