A two bedroom house is being given away for free in Lower Hutt.

Naturally, there's a catch - only the house is being given away, not the land it sits on.

But if you've got somewhere to put the house and don't mind paying for and organising the removal, it could be yours for quite a bit less than the cost of building a new one.

Benjamin Johnson is giving the house away on behalf of the developers who own the site. He told Heather du Plessis-Allan they were approached by developers to buy the land their home sat on, but it meant their home

"We went about finding a new home for our home." 

He says the developers did buy the land, with the house included, and they could have sold it - but they got permission to relocate it freely. 

Johnson says it's a mid-1940s ex-state house and is in good state.
