Bachcare has been fined $117,000 for misleading people - by deleting low-rating reviews.

The Holiday rental and accommodation company pleaded guilty to two charges under the Fair Trading Act after a Commerce Commission investigation.

Over a year, Bachcare altered and withheld online reviews by customers.

It included deleting comments on the cleanliness of properties - and withholding reviews with a star rating lower than 3.5 out of 5.

Commerce Commission's Antonia Horrocks says it's not an isolated case.

"Online reviews are important for consumers when considering the purchase of goods and services, and we're seeing more complaints from consumers alleging that businesses are altering or fabricating their reviews to better endorse their product, so for us this was an important case."
