The Health Minister faced a frosty reception from General Practitioners today.
Andrew Little revealed new indicators to monitor the health system's performance at the GP's conference in Wellington.
But the audience laughed when Little came to the mental health indicator in an apparent criticism of progress in the area.
Questions from the floor were highly critical with one GP questioning a lack of improvements on socio-economic factors worsening health.
But Little told Heather du Plessis-Allan those are exactly the problems the Government's working on.
"We can't just rely on health services to pick up all these problems. That's why we're doing things like lifting benefit, putting food in schools. That's why we spent so much on keeping people connected to their jobs during the Covid lockdown."
Mental health campaigner Mike King says Little is getting terrible advice and is threatening to throw a lawsuit if the Government keeps questioning his counsellors.
"Every single one of my counsellors meets the standard. They are all qualified, they all meet the standards of their respective organisations, they are all police vetted."
King says it's time for Little to put up or shut up.
