Kate Hawkesby: Thanks for all the support for Early Edition

So this is it for me this year. I'm finishing early because, well, 2020.

Isn't that the best excuse for everything these days? 2020.

Given the wacky year of two lockdowns for us and working through those, and no holidays, we find ourselves winding up early.. the show will go for another couple of weeks though never fear.

But I just wanted to say how much I've appreciated all your support, your texts, your emails, your messages on Facebook, your Instagram DM's, I love that this early bird audience is active and engaged, which makes sense really given people that are up this early are usually go-getters.

I appreciate the diversity of opinions and the back and forward we get, I appreciate the regular listeners who tell us they set their alarms for 5am, that's so awesome and it's an absolute pleasure to get to come in here and talk to you every morning and start our day together. So thank you for all of that. Thanks also to my amazing producer Laura who works so hard, she's young - I don't know why I'm obsessed with how young she is - probably because I'm old enough to be her mother, she's 22 but she's such a self starter, she's smart and organised and she gets it, and she's a delight to work with.

And I'm so proud of her because not only does she get up in the wee small crazy hours to produce this show but she's also saved with her partner and bought her first house this year - she's a first home buyer - part of the history-making home ownership story of 2020, but it's an amazing achievement for someone her age and it's testament to how hard she works and how disciplined she is. We need more young people like Laura.

And to Michael and Glenn, Mike's team who we work alongside, everyone plays a part, we're grateful for our little team of early birds.

So this is the last show I'll do this year, I'm back in January, I hope you will be too. I hope your summer and Christmas is safe and relaxing and you spend it where you want to spend it, with people you want to spend it with.

We'll be at home relaxing with the trees, and the birds, and our menagerie of ducks, sleeping in hopefully, walking the dog, doing not very much. But that's the great joy isn't it? Getting to potter and do nothing for awhile. Oh I tell you one thing I am doing which I'm slightly nervous about, I'm flying with my daughter to Gisborne, and no one is more paranoid about small planes than me.

So I'll be trying to put a brave face on it for my daughter's sake, but if anyone has any fear of flying tips let me know. We're also flying to Christchurch to see Mike's Mum before Xmas, so I've got my mask at the ready.

But whatever you're doing, enjoy it, and have a very happy Xmas. I feel like we all deserve a good Xmas don't we?

Thanks again for all your support.
