The UN's released its most damning report to date on Myanmar's treatment of its people.
At least 700,000 people have fled the country in the past year and the report is calling for top military figures to be investigated for genocide and other horrific crimes against humanity.
Harvard University researcher Yee Htun told Kate Hawkesby there is a global misconception that the election of a civilian government had reformed the country - but that's not the case.
"Even though there have been these dramatic changes of the civilian government enacted, some of these large barriers and effective military control have always remained."
