Hospice NZ: Could be issues if euthanasia rules are altered

The head of Hospice New Zealand says they'd be concerned if euthanasia laws changed.

As of the end of June, 400 people have applied for assisted dying since it became legal in November, and 143 people have had an assisted death.

Hospice NZ acting CEO Wayne Naylor says it's comforting to know there have been minimal complaints with the system.

But he told Roman Travers experience from other countries suggests there could be issues if rules around the practice were altered.

He claims some countries have loosened laws over time, resulting in babies with health issues or people with dementia being euthanised.
