Industry body says inquiry into aged care facilities unnecessary

An industry body representing rest homes says an inquiry into aged care facilities would be a waste of time.

Bupa Care Services was fined $10,000 for not providing adequate care to a woman who was found in a urine-soaked bed a number of times.

Consumer New Zealand is calling for an inquiry into rest homes.

But the Care Association said that incident's not representative of the industry.

Founder, Victoria Brown told Andrew Dickens the sector does a good job overall.

"When I read and heard that news I found that really surprising and really, very concerning. But that facility, I don't think that's common in the sector at all."
