The strength and ferocity of Hurricane Michael has caught Florida by surprise when it smashed into the coast of Florida.

At least two people were killed when the almost category 5 hurricane ripped through Florida's Panhandle.

It has destroyed buildings, downed power lines, uprooted trees and caused extensive flooding.

Storm chaser Chris, from SS Storm Chasers told Tim Dower he has been following storms for years and it was unlike anything he's ever seen.

"I've grown up in Florida my whole life, I lost my home in Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and that pales in comparison to this, this is a massive,. massive hurricane."

He said the hurricane is like 'nothing he has ever seen before'.

"The entire town is shut down without power. It really is devastating for the people who are trying to get in touch with their loved ones."

The Hurricane has also left pets stranded throughout the town because many people were unable to take them when they evacuated.
