There's jubilation at news of a separate bike and pedestrian bridge across Auckland's Waitemata Harbour.
The Government is promising a 685 million dollar walking and cycling path.
It would be a separate structure next to the Harbour Bridge, because it isn’t possible to attach anything to the bridge without putting the whole structure at risk.
Northcote MP Shanan Halbert told Kate Hawkesby the first petition for a walking and cycling bridge was in the 1990s.
“We’re quite excited obviously. We’ve been waiting to get a way forward on this for our community so it’s great news this morning.”
