A justice lobby group says the buck stops with Kelvin Davis when it comes to the Waikeria Prison riots.

The Corrections Minister's managed to get approval for one-point-three-five million dollars, to compensate prisoners and staff for belongings destroyed in a fire during the riots.

The 17 prisoners responsible for the riot won't get anything.

Scott Guthrie from Justice for Kiwis told Tim Dower he agrees with the payout but says the riot wouldn't have happened if Davis had been doing his job.

“Him and Andrew Little campaigned strongly on fixing a broken justice and corrections system and they’ve done nothing.”
