Nurses say they're striking to help people who will join the profession in the future.
Tens of thousands will walk of the job for eight hours today, along with midwives and healthcare assistants, after turning down a second pay offer from the District Health Boards.
They'll walk off the job at 11am.
Auckland Hospital registered nurse Mafi Talakai told Kate Hawkesby it's not just about the money.
“They’re trying to make things better for the nurses coming tomorrow. The only people that will benefit from that is the patients.”
