An idea has been raised to keep the America's Cup here, by getting sponsorship from a lot of small businesses.
Team New Zealand has turned down a $99 million joint-offer from the Government and Auckland Council.
Luxury LAS director Kyria Warren told Kate Hawkesby she put the idea forward at this week's meeting at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, where they heard it was unlikely the cup would be defended in New Zealand.
She says she pledged a percentage of her sales to help sponsor the cup.
“At the end of it, there was a gentleman come up and he had a clipboard was writing down numbers to create this fan club.”
