The Government seems to be hedging its bets on the Covid-19 vaccine.
It has an in-principle agreement to buy up to five million doses of a vaccine from Janssen Pharmaceutica, which would cover the whole population.
The Government's also recently agreed to buy 1.5 million doses of a Pfizer vaccine.
Auckland University vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris told Kate Hawkesby there may be another opportunity for a different vaccine before those two.
"So it's really spreading the options across a whole lot of bases. We've just got so much limited information, even though we learn something new everyday."Â
However, she warns that we haven't seen the efficacy data yet, which isn't ready yet.Â
"It is dependant on how all those trial findings pan out."
