One mum is charging her five year old daughter board but a financial adviser says that's too young.
The American mum says online she charges her daughter five dollars a week for rent, power, food and water.
It comes out of her seven dollar a week allowance and is to teach her about money and what life costs.
Hannah McQueen from enableMe told Nadine Higgins her intention is good but you shouldn't charge rent to children until they've finished school or are work-ready.
She said we don't want them to fear money.
"We don't want them to revere it but they need to master it. You've got to build on lessons, not just come down with 'life's going to be tough, you might as well give up now'."
McQueen said parents need to teach their children money isn't magic.
