Many of us may think we're good at handling our money, but a recent report suggests otherwise.

70 percent of Kiwis surveyed wouldn't be able to meet basic financial commitments like rent or a mortgage beyond a short period of time, if they lost their jobs.

But 80 percent say they're reasonably confident about making financial decisions.

Enable Me financial advisor Hannah McQueen told Kate Hawkesby if you aren't financially stable, it suggests you might need to make better decisions.

“Kiwis aren't good at executing financial decisions consistently - as they don't have a plan.”

McQueen says having a good money system behind us in times of crisis - like this pandemic, can be a big help.

"We shouldn't just drift along, we need a plan to keep us stable. Covid-19 might not be the only economic event which is going to affect us."
