National's Gerry Brownlee says it's pretty easy to borrow money but much harder to pay it back.
Todd Muller's announced his new shadow cabinet, after taking the National Party leadership from Simon Bridges.
Brownlee holds on to his Foreign Affairs portfolio and also replaces Paula Bennett as campaign chair.
He told Kate Hawkesby if you get into household debt it's a big strain and it's no different if you're a government.
Brownlee says you have to have a very clear plan for how you manage that massive debt New Zealand is going to have to deal with.
He claims the Government doesn't have a plan after months of dealing with Covid-19, so to have to wait for Todd Muller to have a plan is not unreasonable.
