There are more than 50 signatories to the letter to be presented to Climate Change Minister Paula Bennett at Parliament today.
Villa Maria executive director Fabian Yukich told Rachel Smalley they didn't think twice about putting their name to the letter.
"We sell a lot of wine overseas and our customers are asking us what are you doing to help the environment as a business, as a country. They actually do ask us that now, and we felt that there's more that we can do."
Mr Yukich said the open letter will hopefully convince the government to take some leadership on the issue.
"Make it imperative for the country to look at ways that we could reduce our carbon emissions. Businesses and people would get on board.
"Sort of hoped that the government would put some targets in place. Start motivating people in New Zealand to do something about climate change. They can provide incentives in all sorts of different ways for people to be heading in that direction."
Fuel company Z says it's part of the problem with climate change ... and that's why it wants to be part of the solution.
Z Energy chief executive Mike Bennetts told Mike Hosking companies like his can't make changes on its own.
"The problem is so large and the solutions required are more of a systemic response but it needs collaboration between governments who targets and good policy settings."
He said if the company isn't sustainable environmentally, then it can't be economically sustainable either.
