Kate Hawkesby is joined by Auckland University associate professor of health Dr. Colleen Bergin, who believes e-scooter companies should contribute to the costs of e-scooter related injuries.
In 14 months ACC has spent $5.3 million of e-scooter injury claims.
But Bergin says those figures are conservative.
She says it is nearly double when you include hospital admissions and long-term effects of some injuries.
On average, there are 200 e-scooter injury claims with ACC per month, costing half a million dollars.
Bergin says the long-term physical costs to young people including head injuries are greater than money.
