Clarity is starting to emerge from the government's regional plan, according to economic development experts.
It's in response to a report by right wing think tank the Maxim Institute, which says the government's $3 billion Provincial Growth Fund is being spent without a proper focus.
But Economic Development New Zealand chief executive David Wilson told Kate Hawkesby the focus is national and it's trying to improve the economy of the whole country.
"It is addressing all the regions and making sure none are left behind. Inequality is both within and between regions and we can't have a society based on inequality."
