A warning that complacency around Covid-19 measures could still risk a substantial rise in cases.
Otago University infectious diseases expert David Murdoch is encouraged by the way the numbers are tracking.
There were 89 new cases confirmed yesterday, 82 the day before.
He told Kate Hawkesby rushing to a lower alert level could dangerously increase community transmission.
"If we do relax the measures, that would be a high chance that would be our future, and that's what we want to avoid."
Murdoch says an extension to the lockdown appears a likely option at this stage.
