The Defence Force is disputing dozens of claims made in the controversial book Hit and Run.
The book alleges civilians were killed during a New Zealand-led raid in Afghanistan in 2010.
The Defence Force now says authors Nicky Hager and Jon Stephenson made 105 errors, and that new US military footage has emerged to exonerate those involved.
New Zealand Herald reporter, David Fisher, told Kate Hawkesby the book contains extraordinary claims.
"War crimes, cover up, the casual attack on a village with an extraordinary level of aerial bombardment."
The footage will be reviewed as part of an inquiry into the allegations.
"Our close friend and ally the United States has this drone footage all eight hours which Tim Keating, who is the former Chief of Defence Force, said would completely exonerate the SAS.
