Facebook's now threatening to stop Australian users from sharing news on its platforms.
New Zealand Newspaper Publishers' Association general manager, Brook Cameron, told Kate Hawkesby Facebook will fight hard.
"The draft code includes the social media giant sharing information with publishers too, so they'll fight very hard to protect that.
"Facebook has deep pockets so could go into arbitration for a very long time."
Cameron says social media giants don't pay for news content, but make advertising revenue from it.
"It's a double whammy for the media because it's expensive to set up a news room and sites like Facebook also take advertising dollars."
