An Auckland man said performing with Sir Paul McCartney on Saturday night was a dream come true.

Pipe major Benjamin McLaughlin performed with the Auckland and District Pipe Band, playing Mull of Kintyre in front of more than 30,000 concert-goers at Mt Smart Stadium.

Mr McLaughlin told Nadine Higgins the band got the call up just two weeks ahead of the concert.

"Paul was great he made the time to talk to us, acknowledge that we were there to be part of his concert not just a side show or side act."
