Disappointment over a new National Party housing policy.

Leader Judith Collins has drafted a member's bill that would oblige councils to immediately zone more housing land - and limit Resource Management Act appeals.

$50,000 would go to local authorities for every new home consented, above their five-year historical average.

OneRoof's Ashley Church told Kate Hawkesby it's a very blunt instrument to generate more housing.

"Supply issues are much more nuanced, and this policy's more about virtue signalling."
