There has been some discussion on if New Zealand has the measures in place to cater for a growing Asian population.
One question that is being raised is if there should be more education in schools of Asian culture and languages?
This comes after Statistics NZ figures show a quarter of the country's population will be Asian by 2043.
Should children have more exposure to a culture that's going to be a big part of their future?
Head of language and culture at AUT associate professor Sharon Harvey told Kerre McIvor she thinks our language skills should reflect our society.
“There’s absolutely no reason why New Zealanders shouldn’t be also speaking three or four languages all together. And of course, many of our young migrant children are still coming into New Zealand schools with one, two or even three languages.”
