Positive signs the 'New Zealand Made' product status is becoming renowned internationally.

Every 48 hours, a Kiwi business requests the 'New Zealand Made' brand to be stamped on its product.

The past year has seen a rapid uptake of businesses wanting the mark, with a record 151 businesses making an application.

Buy NZ Made Executive Director Ryan Jennings Told Kate Hawkesby the purpose of the stamp is slowly evolving.

"It's really morphed over the last three decades to help both New Zealanders feel proud and loyal to buying local, but also in those international markets, particularly in Asia, to show that a product that is made here can be trusted."

Jennings says in a growing competitive market the the stamp gives kiwis the edge.

However, he warns there's a strict criteria businesses must meet, rather than being something simply handed out.

"Where does the significant manufacturing process take place? That's got to be in New Zealand. What's the essential character? That also has to be in New Zealand. If it's New Zealand grown, then that product obviously has to be grown here in New Zealand."
