Ashley Bloomfield could soon be in charge of deciding whether there's fluoride in our water.
There's currently a bill before Parliament, to shift the decision-making responsibility from city and district councils, to DHBs.
But the Government now wants to give the power to the Director General of Health.
Dental expert Jonathan Broadbent told Kate Hawkesby it's a good idea that will provide consistency across the country.
He says fluoridation is geographically inconsistent, just like access to dentists.
