The construction industry is at the core of National's latest education policy.
The party will fund $2 billion in a 'Fix New Zealand Schools Alliance' bringing together builders, educators, architects, and engineers, to fast track school repairs.
AUT construction expert John Tookey told Tim Dower investment in the sector will be important in a post Covid world.
"Once the wage subsidy ends, we'll see a lot of housing and commercial construction workers get laid off."
Tookey says this is exactly the type of investment they need.
"There needs to be investments in job-rich projects, which the shovel ready scheme isn't achieving."
