Delays at Ports of Auckland are going to cause headaches for both motorists and the transport sector.Â
A ship carrying more than 1000 containers is being diverted to Northport, meaning there'll be about 800 more heavy vehicles travelling on the roads between Auckland and Whangarei.
It's going to mean one truck every five minutes on the roads for a week from tomorrow morning.
National Road Carriers chief executive David Aitken told Tim Dower it's going to be a challenging week.Â
"It's going to to add a lot more vehicles on the road - and they have to travel a far greater distance."
Aitken says the trucks typically travel within a 30 kilometre radius.Â
Now, they will be travelling 150 kilometres up to Northport and back again.
