A bounce in the number of people wanting to get into sailing is expected off the back of the America's Cup.

The home side broke the deadlock yesterday and seized a five-three advantage over Luna Rossa heading into this afternoon.

Yachting New Zealand chief executive Dave Abercrombie told Kate Hawkesby they often see a spike after successful Olympic games and round the world races.

“The interest in New Zealand is incredible, but while we always see a bit of an upswing, maintaining it is the challenge.”

Team New Zealand is currently leading the first to seven series, five wins to three, with racing set to continue this afternoon.
