International education providers say allowing five hundred students into the country each month would work.

Education NZ says the Government's dragging the chain on reopening the border to international students, compared to other countries.

It says New Zealand providers will be at a competitive disadvantage for years, unless something's done.

Aspire 2 International CEO Clare Bradley told Tim Dower letting five hundred students in per month is realistic.

She says her institution has nine intakes each year, so the students can arrive in small cohorts.
