Turn-out for the American election is shaping up to be high, with whoever getting the most people out to vote, expected to win.

US election pollster John McLaughlin expects 140 to 150 million people this time round, compared to 129 million, four years ago.

He told Rachel Smalley based on the average of the polls, Hillary Clinton has 203 electoral votes, compared to 164 for Trump.

"And there's 171 toss ups, which means there's 14 states that are pure toss ups that will be won or decided based on election turn out tomorrow."

270 is seen as the magic number for electoral votes.

Mr McLaughlin told Rachel Smalley it's a 50/50 race right now.

"Where Clinton has muscle, but Trump has momentum and he has people."

He said you have to take the polls with a grain of salt especially in this age of digital communication.

But former Republican strategist David Kochel told Rachel Smalley he disagrees.

He said Hillary Clinton has an advantage because she starts with many more electoral votes that've been won by Democrats over the past five or six elections.

"I just think that the pass for Mr Tump to get to 270 is very very narrow. He'd have to win all of the swing states."

Mr Kochel said he also has to win another state that he hasn't led in, at any point in the election.
