Two police officers are in hospital after being shot in Ferguson, Missouri.
They were shot as a protest was underway outside the police department.
One was reportedly shot in the face, the other in the shoulder, but the extent of their injuries isn't yet known.
The shooting comes after the Ferguson police chief resigned amid accusations of racial bias.
CNN's Errol Barnett says a number of questions remained unanswered.
"There is an investigation that continues. Who fired the gunshots, why, and what will it mean in Ferguson with a new police chief?"
Tensions have been high in Ferguson after the death of unarmed African American man Michael Brown, who was shot dead by a white police officer last year.
