Stan Wawrinka has won the US Open.

The Swiss tennis player has defeated world number one Novak Djokovic 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 in a match that lasted just under four hours.

Djokovic showed some injury concerns throughout the match, calling for the trainer at one point during the fourth set.

However Wawrinka was by far the better player as he claimed his third Grand Slam title.

Wawrinka said it's an incredible victory after a gruelling few weeks.

He said he came into the tournament with no expectations, but completely emptied the tank to win.
