Skoda is the latest European car company to be drawn into the emissions scandal.
Volkswagen has admitted $11 million of its diesel vehicles worldwide were fitted with software, which conned testers into believing their vehicles met environmental standards.
It's now emerged some Skoda four cylinder diesel engines are also affected.
The company is waiting confirmation as to which specific vehicles are involved in New Zealand and the appropriate technical solutions.
It will be in touch with Skoda owners if their vehicles are involved.
