Kiwi expats in Bangkok say the bomb that exploded last night was in the busiest street in Thailand.

It's morning in Thailand's capital and Kiwis are still shaken from last night's events.

The death toll for a bomb that exploded in a Hindu Shrine has reached 22 and injured more than 120.

It's reported three bombs were discovered and one detonated in a Hindu Shrine.

New Zealand Thai Social Club President Will Chase reports some Kiwis are leaving Bangkok.

"I've managed to speak to a few members of my community just to get a sense of where they are and they're all checking on their people to make sure everyone's okay and we'll be coming together for a meeting."

Mr Chase said they've been through protests and explosions before but nothing to this scale in the middle of town.

"This one is a bit more gruesome. The people that we've spoken to, they're a lot more cautious this time because it's happened right in the middle of town."

He reports the internet is down in some areas and an over-loaded phone system is intermittent.
