Prosecutors want de Malmanche evidence tossed out

Bali prosecutors want New Zealander Antony de Malmanche jailed for 18 years for bringing drugs into the country.

They say much of the evidence given in his defence - which centred on his susceptibility and portrayed him as the victim of an online-love scam - should be thrown out.

The 53-year-old faces a maximum penalty of death after his arrest in December, when 1.7kg of crystal methamphetamine was found in his backpack at the airport.

His defence argues de Malmanche had been effectively brainwashed by hours of online chat with someone identifying as "Jessy Smith", whom he had fallen in love with.

But the prosecutor says the drugs had the potential to harm 17 hundred users as well as Bali's reputation ... and much of his defence testimony should be considered irrelevant.

The trial continues later this month.
