The NZOC has become the first national organisation to win the IOC's women in sport award.
Top BMX rider Sarah Walker has been part of the delegation in Lausanne and said the award is recognition of the lack of barriers in New Zealand sport.
"Its a very male dominated sport but I never felt like I couldn't do it or I wasn't allowed, New Zealand has done really well in that sense - if you're feeling like you want to go and do something then just go and do it."
Sarah Walker said having two degrees of separation in New Zealand means top athletes are accessible to kids.
