  • Israel and the United States yesterday launched an "all-out" missile strike on Iran, which an Israeli source claims is expected to last for at least four days.
  • Israel's defence ministry announced Saturday it had launched a "pre-emptive strike" on Iran as sirens sounded in Jerusalem and people across the country received phone alerts about an "extremely serious" threat.
  • US President Donald Trump called it "a massive and ongoing operation" and urged Iranians to take the opportunity to overthrow the regime.
  • The strikes were near the offices of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It wasn't clear whether the 86-year-old Khamenei had been in his offices at the time.
  • The Iranian Red Crescent has reported that at least 201 people were killed and 747 wounded in the strikes.

  • Iran has closed its airspace and launched retaliatory missile strikes against Israel and against US bases in Qatar and Bahrain.
  • Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters has advised New Zealanders in Iran or Israel to shelter in place or leave if they are safe to do so. Peters says there are currently 23 New Zealanders registered with MFAT in Iran and 62 in Israel.

  • A five-star hotel in Dubai has been damaged after being hit by debris from an intercepted Iranian missile.
