Hillary Clinton has been interviewed for three and a half hours by the FBI over the alleged improper use of her email account while in her role as Secretary of State.

The questioning took place in Washington DC on Saturday local time.

US correspondent Jack Tame told Andrew Dickens the Justice department has been investigating Ms Clinton for over a year now, to ascertain whether her and or a member of her staff committed a crime in using a private email address.

"It's already been shown that she sent information that turned out to be top secret during her time as Secretary of State from a private and poorly protected email server. However, it's still one of those things that does seem to really be sticking."

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she will take as gospel what the FBI recommends, as a result of its investigation into Hillary Clinton.

Bill Clinton controversially met with Ms Lynch on the tarmac at Arizona airport at the weekend.

Tame said although the Attorney General said otherwise, she does have the power to overrule the recommendations of the investigation.

"If it was shown that she met with Bill Clinton and that the FBI said, charge Hillary Clinton and then she decided not to I think tat would just be too rich for the American voting public."

It's unsure when the investigation will be wrapped up.
