A Florida man who wrecked a stolen BMW thanked responding officers for saving him from the aliens as he claimed he had “teleported” there.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrested Calvin Johnson on December 8 (local time), just a few minutes after he had stolen a 2018 BMW 230i Convertible from a local park, according to the New York Post.
Johnson had been travelling at a speed of 160km/h when he crashed the stolen car into a wooded junction and was pulled out of the wreckage by witnesses.
“They told me, the X-Men, to do it,” the bloodied man was heard telling deputies, going on to allege he hadn’t swiped the car, but been teleported inside it.
“I don’t do that stuff. Someone told me to get in there. Someone’s in my head. Thank you for saving me. I don’t know how I got in there. You saved me from the aliens.”
The 36-year-old was taken to a local hospital following the incident, where he was treated for his injuries.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the car’s owner left his keys in the cupholder of the convertible while walking his dog in Bicentennial Park.
Johnson took advantage of the circumstances and took the car for a spin, leaving it crumpled as officers extinguished the flames.
A witness told Fox 35 the bewildered man had asked other bystanders for a lighter as he got into the expensive car.
“I thought, how does he have a BMW if he doesn’t have a lighter for a cigarette?”
Johnson has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended licence.
