Sam Allardyce has left his post as England's football manager by mutual agreement after just one match and 67 days in charge.
It follows a Daily Telegraph newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to get around rules on player transfers.
An FA statement says Allardyce's conduct is inappropriate of the England manager.
Sam Allardyce met with FA chairman Greg Clarke and CEO Martin Glenn and offered a sincere and wholehearted apology for his actions.
He said although it was made clear during the recorded conversations that any proposed arrangements would need the FA’s full approval, he recognises he made some comments which have caused embarrassment.
England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate will take charge of the senior side for the next four games in an interim capacity.
