A localised tsunami warning is in place following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake in the Solomon Islands.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says waves of up to a metre above the tide level could hit some coasts in the Solomons and Papua New Guinea.
It says smaller waves of up to 30 centimetres, could hit other Pacific islands.
Our Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management says there is no tsunami threat here.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake, which was 168 kilometres deep.
