Updated 12.49pm: It seems plans to create a Wellington Super City are all but dead in the water.
The Local Government Commission has confirmed a decision is imminent on the proposal to amalgamate the nine councils across the Wellington region.
And there's a growing belief amongst the region's mayors that that decision will be a no.
Greater Wellington chair Fran Wilde said they're assuming that because for the past couple of months, the council CEO's have been meeting and discussing alternative options with commission officials.
She said if the commission was keen on amalgamation, then it wouldn't be wasting its time discussing alternatives.
Hutt City mayor Ray Wallace says he is working closely with all the other councils in the region.
"We are looking at how we can actually come up with a proposal that the majority of the region will accept."
