After years of negotiation Wellington's set to get a direct link to Fiji.

Fiji Airways will begin flights from the capital to Nadi next June.

Wellington Airport chief executive Steve Sanderson says a number of things had to happen to get the service off the ground.

"Supplying them the outward bound passengers to Fiji so they feel comfortable about the available passengers and also even supporting the ongoing passengers to LA as well."

The service will go twice a week, at 'family friendly' times.
