Earthquake strengthening work on Wellington's Hataitai Bus Tunnel gets underway today.
The project is set to cost up to $1.3 million and take about six months.
Wellington city councillor Andy Foster says during the six months, there shouldn't be too much disruption to bus services that use the tunnel.
"There'll be a couple of short periods where they might have to close the whole bus tunnel, but I'm told it's only going to be a couple of weekends during that time."
Andy Foster says the works will be noisy for residents in the area at times, but there's no way to avoid that.
