A reusable coffee cup share scheme called Again Again is launching in Wellington today.

Co-founder Nada Piatek says it's a cup circulation system for a zero waste world.

"We provide stainless steel cups and silicone lids at the partner cafes, so the customer at the moment of ordering can choose to have a waste free coffee."

Customers pay a $3 deposit for the cup and when they return it to any participating cafe they get that money back.

14 cafes are signed up for the pilot with 2000 thousand cups being put into circulation to begin with.

Piatek says 295 million single use cups go to landfills each year in New Zealand

She says the intention is to grow the scheme rapidly throughout the country to change that.

"We have a business plan that is based on 35 new cafes coming each month, so provided we carry on in that track, then we will be displacing 12 million cups by the end of the three year period."
