The Conservation Minister is reviewing a proposal to log native trees flattened on the West Coast during storm Ita.
Buller's Mayor says logging flattened native trees in the region could bring millions of dollars to the West Coast.
Mayor Garry Howard says the fact the Minister's office is looking into it, is a step in the right direction.
He says time is of the essence as the longer a decision takes the more logs will rot.
